Il Segreto is an exercise in quiet elegance, a balance of Italian influences with a distinctly modern point of view. Every detail was considered to create a warm, intimate jewel box that feels both familiar and unexpected. The result is an identity built around discovery, where elegance is subtle, and knowing is part of the experience.
THE APPROACH
Our team started the design process by translating feelings of a hidden Roman alley discovery into an immersive hospitality narrative. Layering marble against rich paneling to create a sense of earned history, highlighted by subtle brass details and low, cinematic lighting throughout. Every spatial touchpoint intentionally hosts dynamic human connection, crafting an atmosphere of effortless glamour where the architecture, material depth, and curated ambiance serve as a quiet stage for the culinary & social experience.

Discovering the Secret
Il Segreto’s identity is rooted in a time when Italian design seamlessly combined utility and elegance. The brand feels familiar without feeling nostalgic, pairing timeless forms with subtle details that reward investigation. Warm, restrained, confident – the identity balances craftsmanship with approachability, creating a sense of discovery without gatekeeping. It’s a brand built around the idea that the best details aren’t always announced – you simply have to know.
The dual logomark system turns discovery into a little game. The “shh” gesture within the keyhole creates intrigue from the exterior, quietly hinting that there’s more to uncover. Once inside, the key mark becomes a small badge of discovery, letting guests in on the secret. Together, the marks create a playful sense of curiosity and reward, leaving guests with something to remember, and perhaps a reason to come back now that they’re in on it.
TWO SPACES
Emerging from a dark, compressed threshold, the entry hall bifurcates into two distinct Italian moods anchored by rich walnut, antique brass, and layered history. The green-hued bar evokes a curated library, where art-deco sconces and jewel fixtures illuminate a humming social space and seamless indoor-garden flow. In contrast, the dining room embraces Milanese elegance, deep reds, shell-inspired sconces, and classic photography setting a refined, moody stage for immersive, multi-course dining.
Authentic Sourcing
To anchor the space in narrative depth, Hale approached sourcing as an architectural excavation of history. Partnering with unique, bespoke vendors globally, we curated custom elements, vintage artwork, fabric patterns, and classic finishes. Every detail was chosen, from hand-selected brass accents to quirky furniture pieces, to feel personally collected over generations. This intentionality allowed Hale to create a physical space that feels genuinely discovered rather than designed.
