Design Icon Architect Haley Balzano
Hospitality architect Haley Balzano has been creating the spaces and places where we meet, eat, play and travel for decades. She migrated from Carnegie Mellon Architecture School to the historic Stein Cox architectural firm in Phoenix. Her work as a hospitality architect and designer persevered through Exclaim Design and Bar Napkin Design. She emerged with the Hale Collective in 2023, a firm built on her values. The name Hale is a family name of strong women who inspire her. Collective reflects her philosophy that it is the group think that creates the best results. She treats her clients as partners and assembles a team of creatives who will produce the best results together.
The Cardinal Way
The Arizona Cardinals have worked with architect Haley Balzano for more than a decade reimagining their entire stadium and creating a new level of sports hospitality that is more interactive, embracing, and profitable. The Morgan is the crown jewel, a private VIP club that celebrates the team’s founding at the historic Chicago Morgans Athletic Club. The speakeasy-style interiors are luxurious and indulgent, offering a premier guest experience. With multiple bars, a stage, luxury booths and dining rooms located directly at field level, the fan experience is personal and connected to the game. With food and beverage created by Sam Fox and The Global Ambassador, the customer receives world-class dining in a world-class experience created by the Hale Collective.
Arizona Culture
We all have sought refuge in an airport restaurant and bar. The hectic and, often, delayed pace of air travel tests the nerves and senses. Architect Haley Balzano has crafted more than 150 airport businesses across the country that work to ease the function and feelings of public transportation. At Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport, she has been helping to transform Terminal Three into the McCain Terminal as a reflection of Arizona’s rich history. Through design and branding, Balzano is introducing Arizona’s great restaurant brands, such as The Tavern by Mark Tarbell and Christopher’s restaurant, and bringing quality quick food like Ajo Al’s and Scramble to the mix.
Sustainability by Design
Atlasta Catering engaged Hale Collective to reimagine their brand and help create a sustainability-focused company. With the goal of a zero-landfill model, no waste, the catering firm needed designs for products that focused on sustainability. Haley Balzano and her team created an entire strategy on how to design, communicate, source and value engineer all of Atlasta’s brand. They emerged with a fresh and engaging visual brand that celebrates the quality products and natural ingredients. Web design, menus and promotional materials were all coordinated to communicate the product and unique company vision of sustainability. The design team sourced zero-waste packaging, flower seed labels and compostable products to make every element of their design enhance their client’s goals.
The Berkeley Boat House
Hale Collective is not just about architecture. The firm creates all of the elements necessary for a successful hospitality experience. Architecture, design and furnishes are joined by graphics and branding, menus and uniforms, digital and print strategies. At Berkeley Boathouse, all those elements came together for Hilton Hotels and Resorts. The historic Bay Area landmark was reimagined as an engaging and interactive public destination. The restaurant was reinvented as a daily gathering space, light and bright, connected to the location, and full of positive energy. Hale Collective created the hotel’s vibe with color, geometry and strong branding, focusing on the heritage of the location and an expression of nautical decor. The design fuses old and new to create an authentic Berkeley experience.
